LVA6.50 - Modes of Operation

The LVA system is comprised of three modes of operation:

Online Mode

Online mode allows you to conduct investigations when analysis is required in real-time. This is accomplished either during a face-to-face interview using a Microphone, or via the Telephone. This mode allows you to focus on suspected portions of speech in real-time and ask additional questions, if needed. It also allows you to quickly narrow down a suspect list by screening a large number of subjects, saving precious investigation time.

This is the easiest mode to use and it is almost entirely automatic. The top layer analysis results are displayed as simple expressions such as "Truth", "Inaccuracy" or "High Stress" and offer a clear indication of the subject's level of veracity and general emotional state.  Every sentence is analyzed in real time.  For first time or inexperienced users, following the LVA training seminar, this is the best mode to use when initially working with LVA.

Online mode also allows you to record your conversation. Please keep in mind that in some countries it may be illegal to record conversations under specific or all conditions. You are strongly urged to seek legal advice and clarification if you wish to use this option.

The Recorder modes

LVA includes two recording service utilities which can be used to optimize recording quality of any external material and to store all recorded material in the Audio Database.  These recorded sessions can be analyzed later on using the Offline Wizard Mode.

Offline Wizard Mode

Offline mode can be used to analyze pre-recorded material to generate an in-depth psychological protocol for a given sample. You can analyze vocal segments from any source such as tape recordings, DAT (Digital Audio Tape) recordings, video, radio, television, live subjects or phone calls. The Offline Wizard enables you to analyze each segment individually as well as in relation to previous segments, allowing you to conduct a content analysis. The offline mode will provide you with easy to understand and interactive graphs, reports and statistical information.  However, in order to achieve a full understanding of the offline mode results, additional training will be required.

Investigation Mode

Investigation mode is similar to the traditional polygraph system. It provides quick and computerized summaries and reports using the familiar techniques of questioning that are standard in polygraph examinations.

For those who have a background in operating a polygraph, LVA Investigation Mode should be quite easy to use and readily understandable.  It operates similarly to an ordinary polygraph, using the same questioning structure and the same psychological parameters. The single but main difference is that LVA uses only voice data.  Other than a good microphone, no additional hardware is needed.

The Investigation system is designed to provide information regarding very specific issues and questions.  Clarifying the issues for which you are conducting the test is required in the pre-test interview, which is a standard part of the investigatory procedure. Investigation mode allows you to conduct a screening test for the purpose of selecting and/or eliminating candidates needed to fill a sensitive position, screening suspects of a crime or simply verifying facts in a yes or no fashion.

Using the Control Question Test (C.Q.T.), you can screen subjects suspected of having committed a crime or interrogate a specific subject in order to make a valid decision on a specific issue. You can also use a Peak-of-Tension (P.O.T.) test to check the level of involvement of a suspect in a specific crime.
